i'm not sure what this means aside from being a bad attempt at an insult. RVM wasn't a single, it's popular with fans and is played at most shows b/c of how great it is. does that mean its a frat house favorite? lol. i don't even care if it wins, it's just the result was so strange. 'cropduster' is fine, but RVM is legendary.
Not an insult, no, just commentary that popularity is often conflated with quality. It would be a pretty boring exercise to do this March Madness thing every year and only have the popular songs win, so an upset like "Cropduster" over "Rearviewmirror" is kind of fun.

I'm listening to Riot Act right now and for all these upsets somehow the three best songs were eliminated.

If that's the case, I look forward to Lightning Bolt's run next year!

It would certainly be interesting to see occur! But even if you were able to pool a representative sampling of all Pearl Jam fans, I think there's very little chance that "Lightning Bolt" the song or album would come out on top.

As opposed to the representative sample that votes for Cropduster over RVM or You Are over State of Love and Trust? :)

Our board is not a representative sample of all Pearl Jam fans, no. I imagine the Pit gets a lot closer to that. It's not at all surprising that a place that started out as an alternative from the official channels might have a different idea of what the band's most potent material is.

Pearl Jam’s middle period is one of the greatest of all time, in all music. Thus while loved, it is deeply underrated, even here. Beating some Ten and Vs tracks is nothing, the era should be considered the superior period from the very start.

Yeah, I agree. Fatal is a wonderful song but in no universe should be it rated above Alive. Historical significance aside, it’s such a great song that tells a story, but in a way that you don’t need that story to be yours to connect with it. It’s a half true tale that very few can relate to on a literal level, yet we can all feel that sense of wronged dread, and we can all cry that we’re still alive despite it. And the solo, whomever it’s bones are borrowed from, taps into a level of catharsis that touches the fibers of the soul - and yet RM has its head up its bum and chooses Fatal, a great song but by no means this. Sometimes intrigue wins the day I guess.

I’m staying off social media more than ever to avoid memes, jokes and normalizing what’s going on. I really appreciate the RM threads right now and relying on them for updates, as well as watching a few news videos.

i 100% agree, cropduster is obviously more popular here even though the quality of the song can't hold a candle to RVM. this place will always have weird results. there's people who participate that don't listen to pearl jam or enjoy their concerts.
