Collusion. Money has gifs for for days but can't slap a playlist together? That's his fault. If this was fantasy football and he didn't have the wherewithal to make a trade you can't swoop in and help. Bullshit.

ive gone through my rankings again on these ones and have what would be the winners with out the playlists, but im gonna listen through these tomorrow most likely and give my votes, but all of them are really close based off my rankings, i think they are all closer then the first 4 matches, so definitely a lot of room for the playlist to change my votes.

Wow. If anything I enjoyed that set of mixes even more than the first 8, and I really enjoyed the first 8. Great job everyone, seriously. Such a quality deep catalogue.

Thejambi vs Lament. 2 good mixes, 2 nice flows. Thejambi has too many strong songs though and is one of my favourite mixes of the tournament.

Supernintendochalmers vs Sgt Crackpot. I actually had Sarge on top on this one, and plat's done you no end of favours putting your mix online for sure, but it was always a close one. In the end snc putting up the specific versions earned bonus points from me, and that was enough to get him over the line. Interestingly enough snc's mix is the only one in the comp that doesn't have a '5 star' song for me, but has an impressive seven 4-starrers.

Letmesleep vs E.H.Ruddock. Ruddo's mix finishes with a run of four 5 star songs, but even still overall I rank lms' tunes higher. Plus a bonus point for providing some specific versions, and a bit better flow too.

TJ vs Theplatypus. Platy's team is a really well thought out and executed. Some great songs used well, enough that I gave it a second listen because I enjoyed the first run through so much. TJ's mix is no slouch either, and actually surprised me a bit listenning through as it works really really well without necessarily having a ton of my fave songs.

Eh, mine is on soundcloud, which tracks plays per day, so I can tell you most people are either not listening to the playlists or just making them on their own anyways, so I wouldn't worry.
I've been making them on my own when they aren't mp3 embeds, like platy's was.

This is why I encourage people to listen to the playlists, no matter how much you think you already know the songs. Sequencing matters.
Completely agree. But it can work against a player, too.

right, there have already been playlists i expected to like and it didn't work as well as other playlists that i discounted and then really enjoyed listening to (as arranged by a competitor here).

Thejambi vs. Lament
Obviously. I do love Laments though

Supernintendochalmers vs. Sgt. Crackpot
This was really close. It came down to Not For You , I Got ID , In Hiding, Around the Bend.

Letmesleep vs. E.H. Ruddock
Both had a lot of songs i don't care for but i was surprised how nicely they worked as playlists. I enjoyed the acoustic dominance of Letmesleep.

TJ vs. Theplatypus
As a playlist i enjoy TJs much more. As a group of songs Plat's is amazing. Even though i think Plat's may be a bit of "too much of one thing" it is a very deliberate and intentional playlist.

These were all very good playlists. I was quite surprised how my opinions swayed after i listened to them.

Match 5: Thejambi vs Lament
Thejambi
W.M.A.-3.5
Do the Evolution-5
World Wide Suicide-5
Betterman-5
Dead Man3-
Small Town-5
Force of Nature-4.5
In My Tree-4
Garden-3
Drifting-3.5

Jambi doesn’t have a bad song in the bunch, and was able to snag some of my all time favorites unconscionably late in the draft.
I like WMA as a moody opener, although it is a bit too long and spacious perhaps. Long pause before the DTE rooster crow. DTE into WWS is great—another pause though (it would have been cool if you could have cut those down but that would require editing I know I certainly am not going to invest when I have to do this). Actually now that this playlist is going I kinda like the way each song emerges from silence. I wonder if Betterman would have worked better following WMA, and then from betterman into DTE. Deadman follows betterman pretty well on a somber note. Elderly Woman is a bit abrupt given how quiet Dead man is—one of the songs with a gentler start may have made more sense following this. FON works well coming out of Elderly Woman. In My tree into garden is one of the best transitions on this mix. Drifting is a fun closer.

I think the long pauses undercut the mix a little bit. It all works well, although there were not a ton of ‘wow—this is a great pairing’ moments. DTE into WWS was probably my favorite.

5/8

vs.

10. Lament
Gone-2.5
Undone-4.5
The Fixer-4.5
Ghost-3.5
Nothingman-4.5
Dissident-4
Corduroy-5
Rearviewmirror-4.5
Breath-5
Angel-3.5

https://soundcloud.com/matt-lament/red- ... gamix-live

Lament had what may have been my favorite team going into this thing, at least until gone. But thejambi was in my top 3 and he finished quite strong, so this should be good.

Gone works as an opener if you get swept up in the ending. Since I think that’s the best part of the song that works, and the end of gone into undone into fixer works really well. Ghost dials things down a notch after fixer, but they follow well, and I like the juxtaposition between the two songs. Nothingman has that blurry start that allows it to follow a faster run of songs, but I feel like I’d like something a bit more mid tempo before it. Maybe I’m just used to T-Christ. Nothingman sticks out a bit on this mix. Great song, obviously, but hard to place. Dissident essentially lauches the second half of the playlist, and so the loud monster riff works. Corduory can follow anything, so it works, and Corudory into RVM into Breath is another strong run. Angel sticks out a bit as a closer. I wonder if having nothingman before it would have been better.

7/8

Lament 48.5 over Thejambi 46.5. Turns out the playlist was the difference maker here. Two excellent teams. I was disappointed to see them up against each other in the first round.

Match 6: Supernintendochalmers vs. Sgt. Crackpot

Supernintendochalmers

oceans-4
brain of j-4.5
last exit-5
mankind-2.5
u-2
alone-4
footsteps-3
falling down-3
sonic reducer-3
4.20-2.5

https://soundcloud.com/ppavice/sets/rm-tourney-2013
SNC definitely is playing to a different set of tastes than mine. In terms of the overall song selection this is one of the teams I think I like the least. I’m not sure I like brain of J and Last Exit following each other since they each have the false starts and seem like they should either lead something off or serve as a break. I guess it is hard to place 3 songs that work well as openers. The thematic shift from last exit to mankind is a bit abrupt, although U follows mankind well. Alone seems like it signals the start of the second half of the playlist, and serves nicely as a transition. Alone to footsteps to falling down flows pretty well, but sonic reducer kinda comes out of nowhere, and then back into the stark 4/20 is a bit jarring, but not necessarily in a good way.

4/8

vs.

Sgt. Crackpot
Education-3.5
Leash-3.5
Lukin-3
Not For You-4.5
I Got Shit-4
In Hiding-3
Crazy Mary-3.5
Foldback-3
Around The Bend-3.5
Santa Cruz-2

a pretty good selection of songs, but few highlights for my tastes. I like education as an opener. Leash is another one of those songs that I think works better as a transition between fast/slow songs than immediately following education. Lukin is fine following it, and Lukin into NFY works, but I think I might have liked this better if NFY followed education. NFY into I Got Shit into In Hiding into Crazy mary is a good run. Foldback is pretty, but maybe a bit too bright (not the best word) to be followed by around the bend (not sure where I’d put it). Around the Bend into Santa cruz works fine, but I might have preferred them reversed.

5/8 for that strong middle run

Sgt. Crackpot (38.5) over SNC (37.5). Tough call. Another one decided by the playlist

Match 7: Letmesleep vs. E.H. Ruddock

Letmesleep

Breakerfall-3.5
State Of Love and Trust (MTV Unplugged)-5
Thin Air-2.5
Marker In The Sand-3.5
Let It Ride-3
Down-4
Hold On (Acoustic Demo)-3.5
Jeremy/Sonic Reducer tag (MTV Awards 1992)-4.5
Immortality-5
Acoustic #1-3

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/124 ... %20LMS.mp3
I don’t really like mixing live songs with studio songs if I’m looking for a playlist, so lets see how this goes. B-fall into SOLAT is nice. Thin Air kinda comes a bit too early, especially on a playlist that doesn’t have many slower songs, and marker is a bit abrupt comng out of it. The rest of this all flows quite well. I like acoustic 1, and wish they turned it into a song, but it’s a bit light following immortality. Overall a good playlist—better than I was expecting with the live choices.

6/8

vs.

E.H.Ruddock
Master/Slave-3
Sometimes -3.5
Gonna See My Friend-4.5
Life Wasted-5
Get Right-3.5
Off He Goes-2.5
Yellow Ledbetter-5
All Those Yesterdays-4
Black Red Yellow-3.5
Porch-5
A lot of songs I really love on this playlist. Master/slave into sometimes works as far as a transition goes, but it’s maybe too slow for too long. I’ve never liked loud abrupt songs following sometimes, but GSMF is no worse than Hail Hail. I really like GSMF into Life Wasted into Get Right. Off He goes is one of those songs that works well as a transition piece, and YL is hard to slot in but works well following OHG. ATY does a nice job following it. BRY and Porch work well too. Actually, after the first 2 songs this is one of my favorite playlists.
7/8
EH Ruddock (46.5) over Let me sleep (43.5)

Match 8: TJ vs. Theplatypus

TJ

Mind Your Manners-4
Blood-3.5
Rats-3.5
I Am Mine-5
Hummus-2
Unemployable-2.5
Fatal-3
Sleight of Hand-2.5
Cold Confession-5
Unthought Known-3.5

A few strong choices really help elevate what was otherwise not a set of songs that played to my tastes. MYM into Blood is abrasive but it works, and rats slows things down. Hummus annoys me, especially in the middle of your playlist. Unemployable actually follows it pretty well though, as does fatal. Actually this whole setlist is pretty strong, and elevates what are some songs I don’t otherwise care much about. I like Unthought Known as a closer following Cold Concession.
7/8

vs.

Theplatypus

Long Road-3.5
The End-4.5
Strangest Tribe-3.5
Of the Girl-3
Other Side-2.5
Wasted Reprise-4
Man of the Hour-4
Be Like Wind-3
Thunderclap-3
Let Me Sleep-3.5

Looking forward to seeing how this plays out since it looks like the only team designed in advance to be a playlist. The End into Strangest tribe flows beautifully. Actually, I have little to comment here, since everything works extremely well. I can’t say if this was done by design or not but the fact that 3 of these songs are quite short is important. Otherwise this might drag. I wouldn’t mow my lawn to this playlist, but this would be great for a quiet night.
8/8--best playlist of the 8

Platy (42.5) over TJ (41.5)

The playlists decided every one of these matches but ruddo
