Exactly the same for me.

That's a little disappointing, but I think they ran their course.
Caught them live 2x and really enjoyed it. Once on the Amputechture tour and once for Octahedron, which happen to be my favorite albums by them...one for the craziness and one for the accessibility, if you can call it that. Both really great shows, but I think they had settled into staying pretty close to the studio albums.
They never did top Deloused, but just about every album has some great music on it.
Frances got me into them, but I think I like every other album, besides the most recent, more that that one.

same here. frances is definitely one of my favorite albums of the 00s. i think i ranked it #3 when we did a 'best of the 00s' a couple years ago. but the next album (amputechture? i honestly don't remember which came next) was a complete let down and i don't think i've bought anything since. i've listened to everything at least once, though, and none of it grabbed me like deloused and then frances did. maybe i'll give a couple of them a spin and see if i still feel that way.
their bonnaroo 05 show was pretty amazing.

That's too bad, but its hard to disagree with the sentiment that they recorded anything better than the first album. One of my favorite musical memories from last year was listening to Cotopaxi while looking out at Cotopaxi at dawn. Good times. I wish them well.

For the record, I don't think TMV is actually broken up. Cedric can't really "break up" the band. It's Omar's band and he has said recently that he isn't ruling out more TMV stuff. So basically, Cedric just threw a Twitter tantrum and left the band.

"The partnership between Omar Rodríguez-López & Cedric Bixler-Zavala is The Mars Volta. These compositions are then performed by The Mars Volta Group."
I'd say if Cedric left the band TMV is done, but maybe it was just a twitter tantrum.

Ignore the Guetta part, which was a joke tweeted by CB-Z.

i like what i'm hearing so far. it's hard to pin down what they're going to sound like from just a few clips, but it has the feeling of being more straightforward rock than TMV.

I really think the first 4 TMV albums are great. De-Loused in the Comatorium, Frances the Mute, Amputechture, and The Bedlam in Goliath. Omar and Cedric's new band, Antemasque, from what I've heard so far, is sounding quite good as well.

I'm surprised at the lack of Noctourniquet love. I thought was easily their best stuff since FTM.

I haven't given it much of a chance.

Anyway, De-Loused just whooped my ass. Flea on bass. Jon Theodore on drums. Cedric and Omar at their peak.
