I really love the Lost Dogs version of Leaving Here; it's so good. I suppose Light Years is a little better, I don't know. I feel like I have to vote for it, especially b/c it's on Binaural, but I enjoy listening to Leaving Here more.

I also really like 10 Billion Years. It's that road I've mentioned PJ should explore a bit more, and that road is the alt Country road. The song almost sounds like it could be a Wilco song.

I'd probably vote for Leavin' Here if so many people didn't convince me covers don't belong in this tournament. Light Years was at once close to my favorite Pearl Jam song, far from it now, but still pretty great. I'm not sure I've ever listened to 10 Billion Years, and not sure I care to.

why not? New pearl jam is always good, for the first listen at least.

I don't know. Is it? Was it a No Code era b-side? Did they record it just the one time in the studio? Was it released prior to Lost Dogs?

Leavin' Here, quite comfortably my favourite cover by the band.

It was released on the benefit album Home Alive: The Art of Self-Defense in early 1996.

Exactly the same on Lost Dogs, I think.

Strictly for the musical performance they captured on record, it's Leavin' Here.

Light Years never felt right for me. I think it was that Ed stayed in that vocal area for the whole song and it didn't go anywhere. A few years ago it hit me hard and I know I was a dumbass for not loving this song before.

Leaving Here is great and could win the PJ cover competition that Stip will now run someday.

10 Billion Years is lovely too.

It's one of those songs you don't recognize but when you listen to it you say "oh I've heard this" then you forget again.

I don't care for the studio version of "Leaving Here" -- I don't know if it's mixed weird or what, but it always just felt "off" to me somehow (this is probably because I heard a dozen live versions before even realizing a studio version existed). At its best, though, it really is one of PJ's best covers, despite the fact that Eddie has been playing the exact same lead riff during the break since 1995.

I like "Light Years" more, though -- it's a thoughtful composition, and it pushes its sentimentality as far as it can without crossing over into mawkishness. I love the "composed leads" during the instrumental bridge.
