I understand the "vote for the composition" aspect, but the latter half of the above comment is reductio ad absurdum, so I don't know what to say. These two songs in particular are strongly connected to live performances for a lot of fans, though, and that's going to seep into the voting process. The images that immediately popped into my head for these two songs when I opened this poll were 1) the early 90's live versions of Porch with Eddie going manimal, and 2) the Breath sign campaign/it being a rarity at concerts.cutuphalfdead wrote:I can't stand this mode of voting. Breath always seems like a really great idea at the start, but Eddie never quite gets to the peak I always expect from listening to the studio version.
"Man, song A is better overall but it really sucked during the 2007 tour so I guess I'll vote for song B because it's always been at least decent live".
Songs are like children -- they take on a life of their own after inception. Some will have a large live component; others might be tainted by their inclusion in a television show; and any song that's ever been picked as a wedding dance has its own magic. Judging strictly on composition is like judging a person based on one single photograph.chuck taylor wrote:I understand the "vote for the composition" aspect, but the latter half of the above comment is reductio ad absurdum, so I don't know what to say. Yea, the unplugged version puts this song on another level.darth_vedder wrote:I largely consider the studio takes for this, but for a few songs, I've thought of live version. For this match up, I voted Porch because of the "redux" version and because of the unplugged version.
