My biggest production criticism on this entire record is the audible "click" on the first beat of the second barre of the intro. HOW and WHY did that get left there?!

I've genuinely never heard it

It’s only a matter of time before the outro to this song causes me to get a speeding ticket

You should see me with this one in the bus; I’m afraid someone will escort me out

I've noticed on live versions this awful sound on the verses - that kind of DJ vinyl scratch noise one can make by swiping one's hand across the guitar strings. I must admit I assumed it was Klinghoffer trying to make some kind of noises to justify being there.
However, after watching a video it seems Stone is the culprit. He runs his hand back and forth along the guitar neck during the verses as he hits his notes. If it was at least in time to the music it could work, but it's all over the place.
Either way, it sucks and ruins the live versions I've heard. Though it mercifully ends after the verses end.

Yeah, it is Stone, and it is indeed horrendous. That sound/technique can definitely be used effectively ('I Quit' off The Smile's latest album comes immediately to mind, but this could be a whole thread of great examples), but here it just grates.
I just thought of one where Stone uses it to great effect: his quick A chords in the 2nd verse of the studio RVM.

Sometimes when this one's stuck in my head and I get past the final "resphaaaaaaand" I find myself humming outro music that actually belongs to another song. Just finally realized it's Paranoid Android.

It's not even my highest rated song on DM... But it's this the best song on the record? Like, it really might be.

a case can be made for the majority of songs. It’s an astonishing record

I absolutely love every song on the record and generally just play the entire thing, but this is probably the song I've reached for the most as a one-off.

I find myself going to this one first as a one-off as well. Which I would never have predicted based on my initial reaction.

I don’t think they’ve ever mixed ugly Pearl Jam with beautiful Pearl Jam into one song this perfectly.

Ask Trag, he has a list of all things involved in this album because he ¨hates¨ it and all of Serban whataver´s work

This is my fav part of this song.
The intro is pretty darn good also
“Start the rebuttal
All part of the game
Yes, what makes us different
And what makes us the same
All the incandescence that is your essence
The unexpected embrace, embrace the unexpected
There's no book on this life, there's no use as directed
The best part I know was when we were connected”
