Good lord do I miss this guy...

yeah, what a fucking shame.

I have been listening to a few songs from SU.

It pains me to see this thread bumped, but it also pains me that it doesn’t just hover at the top of the page. The songbook shows were the absolute best, and When I’m Down was always a highlight.

Yeah that tour was great. I saw 3 shows from that tour and damn it was special. It was cool to see Alain Johaness in one of them. That dude rules.

When I’m down is a fav from his solo career. Amazing vocal performance live.

Listening to EM. What a masterpiece.

Follow My Way is such a great song. The acoustic intro is gorgeous and then it jumps into a mix between SG and progressive rock. Cornell vocals are top notch.

My wife loves that album as well, and she has always loved the lyric, “Follow my way when I am falling from your heart.” My oldest son, who couldn’t care less about my music, asked me if I’d ever heard a song called Preaching the end of the world because “it’s gas.” Cornell was such a talent.

I love EM but really dislike all his other solo albums, bar one or two songs.

All of his best songs seem to be from film soundtracks - Sunshower, the Bond theme, Misery Chain etc.

I dunno about "all" but Sunshower is almost certainly his best song in between Soundgardens.

A new one I learned in the last week is “no motion.” It means you’re having no luck with the ladies.

I’ve been listening to Euphoria Morning a lot lately. I’ve always preferred the pensive, acoustic songs from that album. He had such good emotional and vocal range. I would have loved to see him explore more of the downbeat stuff if he were still around. Rest in peace.

I've been listening to this box set quite a bit over the past couple days. My knowledge of Chris's post-first-run-Soundgarden work has always been really incomplete -- I know Euphoria Morning and the first two Audioslave albums very well, and of course TOTD. But his later solo albums, live stuff, soundtrack work, etc., I've never really listened to in great depth, so there are a lot of things on this box set that are new to me. Some random thoughts about this musician I've loved for most of my life but who still has a ton of music I've never heard.

- The cover of Hendrix's "Hey Baby," credited to M.A.C.C. -- which is basically Temple of the Dog minus Stone -- is wild. No awareness of this before now.
- I think "Misery Chain" is one of the best songs he ever wrote -- Soundgarden, solo, etc., any of it. A top ten song, incredible lyrics and masterful composition -- the chords and melody are Brian Wilson-esque in the their wide-range meandering, yet resolve so immaculately.
- The rote run through "Whole Lotta Love" with Santana is good stupid fun
- In general it seems like Chris solo did as many easy classic rock covers as Eddie and PJ do
- His voice was in insanely good shape until the end. He obviously lost some range and some body, but his control and his expressive power was unmatched -- the solo acoustic version of "I Am The Highway" (from the Songbook album, it seems) is beautifully elastic, every note perfectly rendered.
- I kind of dismissed King Animal when it came out in 2012, but "Been Away Too Long" completely rocked my socks off when listening to this comp. I need to give it another try.
- There is a version of Scream that exists in my head that is absolutely amazing, and every time I revisit any of these tracks I'm always convinced that, just maybe, that's what they'll be this time. But man, I just can't wrap my brain around what he was trying to do with these songs. Almost certainly the weirdest album to come from anyone in his peer group
- I really like a few Audioslave songs but overall they sounded way better to me at the time. This live version of "Show Me How To Live" is really rough.

Timbaland has a huge effect on people. i swear i'm the only person who likes that song

I have nothing against Timbaland, really like a lot of rap/hip-hop, and like I said I can easily imagine a Cornell album with hip-hop-style production that is one of my favorite things ever. And as it is, I hardly hate it -- I find it fascinating in a really garishly confounding way, such that I find it really hard to form an actual opinion on it. I never get to the point of deciding whether I like it or dislike it, because I constantly get stalled at, "WTF even is this?" That's an achievement unto itself.

I totally respect him for making the record. It's not surprising that he immediately followed it with the Soundgarden reunion, though.

I adore Audioslave's output. I think those records are so good.

I remember what listening to that Great Expectations CD was like.
"Seasons" was already a favorite of mine, and this 2nd solo song "Sunshower" made me wish for a full solo album.
I was over the moon when Euphoria Morning dropped not long after that.

One of the most exhilerating covers I've ever heard.

Im a huge fan of Cornell´s solo output. That album is a good representation of his work outside SG and Audioslave, specially those lost songs like Misery Chain or the Bond theme. It also features ¨When Bad Does Good¨, a song i love.

As for Scream, im a big fan of it. The album might be a mess, but the songs are good even with Timbaland´s work being very sub par.

This still hurts but to watch him be affable and then perform... well just glad I can revisit it.
