Hobbit gurus: A lot of the additions seem to take time away from Bilbo. Does he feature prominently in the section of the original story that's left to tell? Because it seems like the story is about to get swollen even without all the added subplots, to a point where he might not be any more prominent in the next film than he was in the first (or less). Add Legolas's big fat "Who cares" grudge match and the interspecies romance on top of that, and I don't know how much room is left for him. That would be a real drag on the next film, since he's easily the most enjoyable and engaging character of the lot.

I adored the lotr books when I was little. The trilogy is one if my all time favorites. Fantasy is probably the literary genre I read the most. But this...

When was the last time you read it?

A few years ago. I usually read The Hobbit and the LOTR every 5 or 6 years. I think the only thing that he would continually do that annoyed me was refer to a larger story but then say that is a story for another time. He does it like half a dozen times. It's a simple story for little kids.

When is he planning to make the Silmarillion into ten movies?

With an additional trilogy devoted to Tolkerman's writings on language and phonaesthetics. The CGI will be amazing.

I'm sketchy on the details but the dwarves barricade themselves into erebor, I don't really remember why but the 5 armies gather at the gates and all start fighting. Bilbo sneaks the arkenstone out and gives it to the elves/gandalf in order to get Thorin to lift the barricade and stop fighting. I haven't read it in a very long time, I can't remember the fine details/
Motivations.

i was a really big fan of the bird shit-covered wizard nursing a hedgehog back to life and riding a rabbit sled in the first movie. is there more of that in the new one?

Yeah that's the gist.
Spoiler: show
The dwarves don't want to share the treasure. Men and Elves want a piece....they start to fight and the Orcs show up...the Men, Dwarves and Elves are like the enemy of my enemy is my friend and they team up against the Orcs. A few more characters show up to turn the tide including Tolkiens favorite Dues Ex Machina and that's that. Bilbo doesn't really take part in the battle he gets knocked out and wakes up when it's over and Gandalf fills him in. Then they go home. So outside of the Arkenstone business he doesn't have a big part left. Bilbo's major contributions to the story is finding the ring....killing the spiders, getting the dwarves out of the Elf fortress, pissing off Smaug and then pissing off Thorin about the Arkenstone.

So in other words the third movie will be Bilbao waking up at the beginning of the movie saying "what happened" and Gandalf will fill him in as they cut back to when Bilbao was knocked out.

I'm sure Peter Jackson will turn Bilbo into a military strategy hero in the battle of five armies.
