It needs checkpoints. I can get to the things with the beaks that stick into the walls. It’s 10 minutes of doing the same shit every time and then sometimes dying immediately when I get to the part I’m struggling with.

It's like the closest thing Mario has to Dark Souls. It's like a Chud of Ice and Fire in 3D.

That extra level in Super Mario 3D World on WiiU is the hardest level across all Marios. That's the only one that I never beat. I beat the Odyssey one post-patch (no exploit). It was hard but fair.
