I'm pretty excited for that one.
Me too. I fear the film will be fairly forgettable and maybe even laughable outside of Jake's performance. But I hope I'm wrong. I'll go and I'll root like hell for it. Jake looks crazy good in the trailers I've seen.

I think it's gonna be goofier and more darkly comedic than the trailers are trying to make it look. I think Gylenhall's performance/character is gonna be a real weirdo/oddball. Plus, it was made by the brother of a super talented dude. Which...maybe doesn't mean much? I dunno. Fuck you. Tony Gilroy is awesome. Shut up. Go to hell. I'm done.

Rank the Tony Gilroy films.
Including stuff he's written and/or directed:

1. The Bourne Identity
2. Michael Clayton
3. Extreme Measures
...
4. State of Play
5. Devil's Advocate
6. Duplicity
7. The Bourne Legacy
8. Proof of Life
9. The Bourne Supremacy (This barely counts, though.)
10. The Boure Ultimatum (This barely counts, though.)

I'm so tempted to just exclude those last two, since he's basically disowned them and said everything he wrote was discarded (and it shows).

No, no. That was Multduplicity.

I goddamn LOVE Devil's Advocate! And I really liked Michael Clayton, too. I can't remember why, I'm a little fuzzy on it right now, but I feel like something about it bugged me, but mostly I liked it. Haven't seen any of the Bourne films. Really wanted to see State of Play, but still haven't. Extreme Measures is goofy, but has one of my all-time favorite lines: "Yeah, and I want a martini and a blowjob. Looks like we're both gonna have to wait." (or whatever it is exactly, it's close if that's not it)

But I wonder why you left Armageddon and The Cutting Edge off your list. Haven't seen them? The Cutting Edge is awesome. "Toe pick."

I left off Armageddon because I don't think he WROTE wrote it, just did some work on it. Have not seen The Cutting Edge.

Michael Clayton and Extreme Measures are both great. EM has maybe one of my favorite screenplays ever, and it gave a rare dramatic role to Hugh Grant (who I love to death).

The Bourne Identity is a near-masterpiece, by the way. You should definitely watch it. Just skip the shitty sequels.

I see.

I should re-watch EM. It's been.... however long since it was released. But I do remember enjoying myself, just that it was a little strange and not-an-action-movie-action-movie. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

My wife loves The Bourne Identity. She's been trying to get me to watch that thing forever.

Considering Tony Gilroy directed that one himself, I thought it was a huge letdown. Has its moments, though.

The Zero Theorem by Terry Gilliam is high on my list.

I liked the first Bourne movie. The other two was just a one dimensional, invincible terminator beating up bad guys for ninety minutes. I didn't get all the praise for those movies. At best I thought they were passable dumb action flicks directed by the only guy that can adequately pull off shaky-cam. The first Bourne is so much smarter.

We're agreeing again, Burt. It's making me nervous.
