Was it hurt locker or jarhead that depicted soldiers basically just sitting around playing video games and jerking each other off bored out of their minds until the one big call came in?

Has it always been a thing or am I just noticing it now?

Loads of films I’ve seen the last year telegraph later events way early in the story.

I might be semi concious of it and watching for it. But I’m seeing it more and more frequently

I never saw Hurt Locker. Sounds sort of like Jarhead, but with the call never really coming and their girlfriends cheating on them.

i think that was it. That was the one that my Brother in law said was pretty accurate. A whole lot of nothing.

Well, it's a whole lot of sitting around until it isn't. Then you get orders for a mission where shit could hit the fan at any second for the next 48 hours or whatever. It is easy to get sucked into the lull of sitting around doing nothing for two weeks straight. And then thinking you are going to die if you blink. It's a mindfuck.

Actually the most accurate war movie is Rambo III, I have it on good authority

I'm not talking about the merits of anti-war movies. I was just thinking about the adage that there are no anti-war movies. Jarhead is the only movie that makes war seem really boring and tedious, so it's the only really anti-war movie.

I haven't seen A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood but it strikes me as weird that Tom Hanks got nominated for Best Supporting Actor for playing Mr. Rogers in the Mr. Rogers movie

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

A24 is infamously terrible at award campaigns.

Incredible. Sandler should have been there.
