Why does everyone talk about 1917 as being one long shot? There is a very obvious cut in the middle of the movie. I don't even mean that Mendes and Deakins don't disguise a transition well. There is a literal cut to black and then a cut back into a different shot. The movie is two long shots with a short black bit in the middle.

2 shots doesn't sound as cool.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I always thought that the term "continuous shot" in this sense was just as few cuts as possible, not necessarily one long shot.

I love Variety's "Actors on Actors" series.

Little intrigues as much as hearing artists actually talk about their craft whether it be actors or musicians or chefs.

McConaughey's hair transplant is truly awesome.

It's designed to look like two long, continuous shots with no visible cuts. But everything I hear is people talking about one long shot

I absolutely fucking hate the continuous take gimmick, especially when it’s accomplished artificially. It works in a couple movies but generally speaking it’s dumb as hell, and argue anti-cinematic.

Like anything, there are good and bad uses of it.

1917 uses it well. It doesn't feel like a gimmick or a selling tool. The movie has issues but that ain't one of em.

you list some movies that I genuinely can't believe you like. the world is full of mysteries.

edit: and I don't care that you like them, I think it's great someone likes them. the passion you show in what you love is what makes you interesting.

I don't have a big problem with them up to this point, but I think we've had enough one shot movies for awhile. Maybe forever.

Russian Ark is the pinnacle of the one-shot format, and really uses it make a very unique effect on the audience. Some people just flat-out can't stand how it feels to watch.
