I think Mike and Dave was a better dumb movie than Neighbors.
I love that stupid movie.Mickey wrote:I think Mike and Dave was a better dumb movie than Neighbors.
Parasite is great. I didn't see the Irishman but I can't imagine it's anything other than interminable and up its own ass. Once Upon a Time... is awful. Joker was meh. I did like Little Women and Jojo Rabbit a lot, though.Mickey wrote:The names I keep seeing are Nomadland, Minari, Chicago Seven, Mank, Ma Rainey, Promising Young Woman, Judas and the Black Messiah, a few others. Yes, exactly (and by the way, you're dead wrong about The Irishman). Every awards season list has some duds (arguably the majority of Best Picture nominees are forgettable), but ALL of these feel like movies that in five years I'll say, "oh yeah, I think I saw that--don't remember it though."epilogue wrote:Parasite is great. I guess what I'm saying is that this year seems about on par with last year. The difference being there isn't an obvious, next tier, standout like Parasite. At least, not that I've seen.

I adore Jojo Rabbit. It's a keeper.VinylGuy wrote:I agree with you Mickey...it seems Nomadland is the big favorite, and yes comparing it to Parasite, The Irishman or Once Upon A time...is crazy, but last year Jo Jo Rabbit was also there and who the fuck remembers that movie now.
But yeah, i agree with you.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I watched it in film school. I remember hating it at the time, felt super hokey, but I'd be down to rewatch it now that I'm not a surly teenager with a hangovertragabigzanda wrote:Anybody ever see Night Of The Hunter? I’d never heard of it before, and then I randomly got two different references to it, one in my social media feed and one in a book I’m reading, both this morning. Feels like a sign that maybe I should watch it?
