I do like Punch Drunk Love a lot. But that has little to do with Sandler. Also, I'm guessing his character in PDL if wildly different from the one in Uncut Gems.

this is similar in that the filmmaking heavily dictates his performance... this is definitely not a happy madison production

Both movies are exceptionally clear about the worlds their characters live in as long as you're not an absolute dipshit. The opening shot of Uncut Gems is the interior of a diamond mine that morphs into the lead character's diseased intestines.
