I don't like EEAAO but all the stars are aligned for it to happen

I only care about The Oscars because it means another On Cinema Oscar Special. I might have to do another marathon leading up to it.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

The correct choice is Tar. That’s a masterpiece. They will give it to EEOAO because it’s a fun light feel good movie.

But the real movie is Tar.

Who/what I would want to win (if I cared, which of course I don't, but if I did)

Best Picture - Tár
Best Actor - Paul Mescal
Best Actress - Cate Blanchett
Best Director - Todd Field
Best Supporting Actress - Kerry Condon
Best Supporting Actor - Judd Hirsch
Best Adapted Screenplay - Top Gun: Maverick (just because that would be funny)
Best Original Screenplay - The Banshees of Inisherin
Best Original Score - Babylon

if I had a vote among this year's nominees (if I cared, which of course I don't, but if I did)

Best Picture - Banshees of Inisherin
Best Actor - Paul Mescal (Aftersun)
Best Actress - Ana de Armas (Blonde)
Best Director - Ruben Ostlund (Triangle of Sadness)
Best Supporting Actress - Kerry Condon (Banshees)
Best Supporting Actor - Judd Hirsch (Fabelmans)
Best Adapted Screenplay - Top Gun: Maverick
Best Original Screenplay - The Banshees of Inisherin
Best Cinematography - Elvis
Best Original Song - Naatu Naatu (RRR) (though I'd love to give an Oscar to David Byrne for the good song in EEAAO, I can't deny the sheer power and drive of Naatu Naatu)

Were there a lot of visual effects in Top Gun: Maverick? It seems odd that it got a nomination for that. I thought it's whole deal was that everything was practical.

lots lots of special effects. The fact that you dont notice them is a testament on how good they are.

As much as I like Argentina 1985, it's wild that they didn't nominate Decision to Leave. It would've gotten my vote for International and also Editing

Good point about Top Gun's visual effects but I'd give that to Avatar 2

To be fair, I've yet to see Argentina 1985 or Close.

I feel Arg 1985 is fine, but its main strength its the theme, which the oscars just love it
