contamination wrote:The look of many modern TV series and movies has started to bother me more and more. I can't really explain what it is, but I started to watch For All Mankind the other day and had to stop after 10 minutes because it looks so slick, plastic and clean which really breaks the immersion for me. I got the same feeling from the trailer of A Complete Unknown. Somehow they both just look too perfect, like a costume play in a fake prop.
Edit: I just realized that the look I hate is the visual equivalent of how Dark Matter and Earthling sound.
Stumbled upon this a few days ago and I agree with pretty much every point he makes about modern movies:
Over 3,7 million views in 3 weeks, so I guess I'm not the only one who doesn't like how many modern movies look like. There are also some interesting comments, some of them from VFX artists, or at least someone who claims to be one.

Ok I have to admit that I don't agree with him about everything. I think the Avatar movies look awful and I'm never going to watch any of them.

The second Avatar movie is legitimately one of the most beautiful-looking films ever made

I enjoy them and am into them when I’m watching, and then quickly lose interest and forget about them soon after.

I'll go to bat for the second one. One of my favorite moviewatching experiences in recent memory. The story is very simple but I wanted some of those underwater sequences to go on forever.

I saw the first Avatar and it was fine. Have not seen any of the others. And I'm not certain I ever will. But Jorge is making me want to watch 2

The Avatar movies and The Adventures of Tintin all temporarily made me a fan of 3D

Cleaning up a closet and found two posters from The Canyons kickstarter but totally forgot one is signed by Ellis and the other Schrader.

Nice. I have a book version of the Taxi Driver screenplay that is (seemingly) signed by Schrader. I found it in my used bookstore a few years ago.

I want to publicly apologize to Veggie for ever pushing back against his insane hatred of Timmy Chalamet. I just really liked The King and Dune.
I am ready to accept that he's a massive ballbag.
