Has a director had such a quick turn in public opinion as Emerald Fennell? People loved Promising Young Woman, then sort of soured on Saltburn, and now the Wuthering Heights adaptation has folks saying she was never good to begin with.

Maybe Taika Waititi

Ironic because I absolutely loathed PYW and am actually interested in seeing Wuthering Heights

I saw something about fans of the book being upset with this Wuthering Heights adaption for not being faithful to the source material? Looking forward to all the articles about toxic female incels.

I remember Saltburn being praised too. And i WH is a huge hit so im not sure about that, but she is clearly a very subpar director to me. Even PYW, which had some amusing moments, shat the bed in a huge way at the end.

And i found Saltburn being unwatchable. A movie for tik tok.

The lady had me watching WH last Sunday... I was not familiar with the book or anything prior.
I'm not sure if the movie was boring or if I just find the "love vs money" trope boring to tears.
The toxicity is what made it at least mildly interesting to me.

Sounds like if you are a fan of the book, you'll hate the movie. But if you don't care about the book, it's...ok.

Wasn't reception to Saltburn good? I liked it a lot.

And when did people turn on Taika Waititi?

Saltburn was divisive (I fucking hated it)

The Waititi turn seemed to come right after his second Marvel movie

I'm talking about online discourse which may not be a reflection of the real world

In my recollection, critics liked PYW but normies didn't. I personally loved it.

Saltburn, critics and normies hated it. I also loved it.

I feel like EF can't possibly be in the conversation for directors who were turned on because I don't think there was ever a consensus.

I think the woman has made two perfect films (haven't seen WH yet) but it gets weird to me that anyone else agrees.

It means basic bitch. It can apply to anything, not just movies.

All I encountered for PYW online and in the real world was euphoric praise, it was one of THE movies people wanted to talk about that year

Saltburn was more divided, and seems to have shifted more negative with time

I guess it all depends on what you're exposed to

Definitely. And that Irish dude, the lead, was on an upwards trajectory until shortly after it. Then a bunch of stuff came out about him being a POS. Not like Shia LeBouf/Ezra Miller levels, but definitely chodey.
