Of the roughly 50 movies I've seen for the first time this year, I have only actively liked four of them. Pretty bleak crop so far. Really need to find some good stuff ASAP.

Hopefully it isn't for you. Part of my issues with movies has been adult onset ADD and attention span. I can handle tv alright though. I listen to and seek out music much less than before, which was entirely unexpected. Especially with working from home. Also, i'm gay.

I have never believed in separating “best” from “favorite,” but something I’ve been thinking about: when I do my best to strip away as many of my esoteric interests and preoccupations as I can from my list of favorite movies, I conclude that Gone with the Wind is the best movie ever made. And the most important reason for that is that Scarlett O’Hara is the best movie character of all time.

That’s interesting. I do love that movie, and agree that she is a fantastic character.
My top five films from the 1930s are It Happened One Night, Gone With The Wind, The Awful Truth, Mutiny On The Bounty and La Grande Illusion.

FWIW my second choice would be Lawrence of Arabia, largely because T.E. Lawrence is probably the second best movie character of all time.
