Tropic Thunder is way over-rated. RDJ is great, and the opening trailers are funny. Kenny Powers is always worth a laugh. But it's like a B/B- mainstream comedy and people rave about it.

it was such a breath of throwback fresh air when it came out

and it saved us

Elf is a classic, for sure. But it's hard to rank that one along with his other comedic roles, which I would probably do like so:
1. Stepbrothers
2. Anchorman
3. Talladega Nights
4. The Other Guys
5. Anchorman 2
