there are so many amazing songs that the ten sessions produced, but this is not one of them

"This song's called Whipping, kill one another." -EV Dallas '93
What a dick thing to say.

I agree, but criticizing Ed for saying something dickish on stage is gonna find you in the middle of an uproar you probably don't want to be in. I learned that when I had the audacity to suggest that the mosquito bites rant was mean-spirited.

I still maintain that of all of the things he's ever said on stage, this is the most reprehensible.

YIKES! That last comment came outta left field. Ed's a dick posing as a feminist. Not sure how that can be defended, but I'm sure it was solved in another thread some time ago.

I think people were saying that one isolated dick comment doesn't reveal a shriveled black soul, rather than a defense of the comment itself.

Some were. They were also those who pitched the line that "Anyone with a microphone in front of that many people is bound to say something like that at some point."
No one was arguing Ed was a terrible person. They were arguing it was a terrible thing to say. The conflict arose from those who didn't think it was a terrible thing to say. There was definitely a segment of "She deserved for how she was acting," "Imagine how pissed you'd be if you were him," and stuff like that.

Well shit, I'm sure I said that thing about the microphone too. And iirc (maybe I don't) there were definitley people pushing that beyond something terrible to say. The comment about the microphone is a response to that.
This was the same time as the Ramone guitar tech incident, I think, and some people were linking the two together in a 'gotcha, this is the real Ed' sort of moment. I bet no code dog collars were involved, too.

I believe it was something along the lines of...

did y'all also bring up the Dallas '93 comment or maybe the Marky Mark comment? The way he made Stone fire Dave A? Being a complete ass to Kurt Loder after the '93 VMA's? What's the saying... A tiger doesn't change his spots, or something?
He's still my music hero.

The Dallas 93 one didn't come up, but the Marky Mark one may have (though that may have come up somewhere else and I'm mis-remembering). I'm certain the Dave A. firing was a strong theme in the discussion.
He's an immense talent. I'm sure he does a lot of commendable things as well. On the whole he very well may be a good dude. I still wouldn't want to sit across a table from him though.

I certainly would not have wanted to hang out with Eddie in 1993

I probably wouldn't want to hang out with any of them at any point in their career. Definitely not Ed or Stone. Mike seems like he'd be a nice guy, but I couldn't imagine wanting to talk to him about anything. Maybe it'd be cool to go shopping for Vans with Jeff.

I bet if you talked to Ed about being a dad, he'd be into it.

I bet he is way more into it. Millions of dollars and part time employment probably help take the edge off.
