The trailer is a little cryptic, but if it IS indicative of the movie, this seems like a pretty creative way to approach a sequel.

I know, I know. But someone had to start the thread. And as I'm one of 4 people on the planet that liked Cloverfield, I'll happily state that I'm pretty excited about this.

Looks like a great sequel premise and I LOVE the cast. I'm looking forward to it.

"We wanted to make it a blood relative of ‘Cloverfield’. The idea was developed over time. We wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible." - JJ Abrams

I really liked Cloverfield, as well, and the trailer for this is really compelling. I'm skeptical of the sequel thing, since "blood relative" is ambiguous, and could mean anything. I don't care either way, though, since what's been shown so far already makes me want to check this out.

Exactly this.

Cloverfield was a neat idea that was completely wasted by bad storytelling, some of the only truly bad acting ever seen in a JJ Abrams production, and a lot of real Transformers-level silliness (see: mini-monsters).

But this was a cool trailer, and with a different director and different writers, who knows?

Yeah, totally different writing team and director.

There was a big Reddit thread about whether it was a sequel or a different movie with a shoehorned tie in to the original.

Spoilers, I guess: https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comment ... post_from/

If that is true, I will never watch this movie. What a shame/sham.

I think it gives it a better chance of not sucking. It was built to stand on its own...nobody wrote it to recreate anything or to repackage Cloverfield's jokes. It won't be a mimic and it won't assume that it can gain fans because of its name.

It's a shit thing to do to the people who made it, but it'd be funny if it turns out to be a better movie than Cloverfield.

I'm not going to not-see it because it isn't linked to Cloverfield. I didn't like it that much anyway, I hate shaky cam shit. I just think the premise sounds kind of weak, even for a post-apocalyptic movie. (probably my favorite genre). After reading that, though, it didn't really explain how it ties in to Cloverfield. Or did I miss something?
Spoiler: show
It said the world ended because the Iranians nuked everybody, not because of the monster, right?

No, the thread doesn't explain how it ties in Cloverfield. I could have sworn there was another trailer (maybe during the super bowl?) that shows her outside of the bunker and looks up at a bright light.

Still, it looks dvd/Netflix worthy to me.
